About this work
A ballerina stands en pointe at the center of the composition, dressed in a voluminous white tutu with layered ruffled petals and a feathered bodice recalling swan plumage. Her arms curve upward in a mirrored gesture above a lace headpiece, head bowed in profile, while pale water lilies and dark foliage frame her feet beside a still pond reflecting bare silhouetted trees.
The palette favors cool blues and greys, broken by the luminous white of the costume and warm skin tones. Flattened, near-black tree silhouettes give the backdrop a decorative, stage-like quality, while the tutu is built up in thick, textured strokes that catch the light. The result is a hushed, dreamlike stillness, as though the figure is caught mid-pose under moonlight.
