About this work
A broad river stretches toward a low horizon where a wooded point closes the view on the left and dense trees line the right bank. The water lies almost still, broken only by faint ripples, while a moored boat is dimly visible near the far shore. Soft clouds spread across the sky above, catching the last rose and lavender light of dusk.
The palette moves from deep green-black silhouettes of foliage to soft pink, mauve and grey in the sky and water. Reflections are built from loose, dabbed strokes that catch the fading light on the surface. The overall effect is hushed and serene, a still moment at the close of day.
