About this work
A dark bottle wrapped in a straw sleeve with pink ties stands at left, its neck stopped with white paper. Beside it, sharply folded white cloth or paper forms an angular nest holding a golden-brown wedge suggesting a whole smoked fish, with a pale knife or spoon laid across the foreground and a scrap of red visible at the upper edge of the canvas.
The palette is built from cool lavender-grey and teal, broken by the warm ochre of the fish shape and a few strokes of coral pink and red. Forms are simplified and flattened, painted in broad, loose strokes with sharp angular folds standing in for volume. The stripped-down, quiet arrangement has a calm, modern still-life feel.
