About this work
A large five-armed starfish, covered in blue mesh-like texture and studded with round golden and bronze nodules, fills almost the entire foreground of the composition, lying on pale sand scattered with small shells and pebbles. In the distance, three small figures walk along the shoreline where the white sand meets a bright turquoise sea and darker blue horizon.
The scale contrast between the oversized, meticulously detailed starfish and the tiny distant bathers creates a playful, almost fantastical effect.
