About this work
Beyond a window, snow blankets pine boughs and a bare branch that presses close against the glass, filling the upper two-thirds of the composition in white and pale blue. On the windowsill inside, a single red rose stands in a small glass vase beside an empty stemmed wine glass, the only warm accent in an otherwise cold, pale scene.
Thick, textured strokes of white, grey and pale blue build up the snow, while the glassware and rose are rendered with smoother, more precise touches.
