About this work
A tarnished brass mailbox with five horizontal slots is mounted on the left side of a plain corridor wall, its metal surface streaked with dark tarnish and reflected light. To the right hangs a small pink-white radiator with exposed pipe joints, and below it an open turquoise junction box reveals cut wires and a dangling white cable, with a thin crack running down the ceiling above.
The wall is divided into a cool white upper band and a mustard-green lower band, against which the cold grey metal of the mailbox and the warm pink radiator stand out. Paint is applied smoothly with careful tonal modeling of reflections on the metal surfaces, giving the empty, utilitarian corner a hushed, melancholic quality.
