About this work

A pale building with a row of slender columns stands at the left, half-veiled by a mass of green and silver-grey foliage that fills most of the composition. Patches of white above suggest sky or blossoming growth breaking through the trees, while a warm pink path catches light in the lower right corner.

The palette stays close to a muted register of greys, greens and off-whites, warmed only by a touch of pink at the base. Paint is applied in thick, choppy strokes and scraped ridges that fracture every form, so architecture and foliage read as flickers of light. The heavy texture and cool tonality create a hazy, subdued mood suited to overcast daylight.
