About this work
A warm bronze-gold ground fills most of the canvas, with a ring-shaped incision in the upper left suggesting a bowl or vessel seen from above. Scattered angular and grid-like scratches, a line of scored cyrillic-style lettering across the top, and dark drips falling toward the bottom complete the surface, with a dated monogram in the lower right.
Gold, bronze and near-black make up the whole palette, oil built up thickly then incised to expose lighter strata beneath. The rough, sun-worn texture recalls weathered metal or an old glazed vessel, with a warm, meditative glow.
