About this work
A woman lies on her side across a bed of pale, deeply folded drapery, her lower body wrapped in cloth while her torso and shoulders are bare. Her arms are crossed and tucked beneath her chin, head resting sideways with eyes closed as if asleep, bare feet emerging from the fabric at one edge of the sheet.
Rendered almost entirely in warm sepia and grey tones with touches of white heightening, the work builds volume through soft cross-hatching and blended shading rather than outline.
