About this work
Seen from an elevated hillside, a dense cluster of red-roofed houses, balconies and narrow streets descends toward the sea. A tall pine tree frames the right side of the view, with cypresses and other trees scattered among the rooftops, and a hazy coastline stretching along the horizon in the distance.
Warm terracotta, ochre and rose tones of the roofs contrast with the cool blue-gray of the sea and sky, applied in thick, textured strokes. Soft afternoon light picks out the foliage and rooftiles, giving the view a sunny, tranquil Mediterranean mood.
