About this work
Two tall masts rise from a cluster of dark, loosely painted boats sitting low on the water. Around them a pale, cloud-filled sky and a broad band of sandy shore or water dominate the composition, with only faint hints of hulls and rigging breaking the haze.
The palette is soft and muted, built from warm sandy beige below and cool pale blue-grey above, with the boats picked out in dark, wet-looking strokes. Loosely dragged paint and thin drips describe the masts, giving the small marine study a quick, atmospheric, sketch-like feel.
