About this work

A large, dome-shaped sea-urchin shell sits at the center of a pebble beach, its surface covered in rows of small white bumps radiating from a dark central opening. It is surrounded by a dense mosaic of multicolored stones, shells, and starfish fragments rendered in fine detail. Beyond the shoreline, calm water carries a small sailing ship near the horizon.

Meticulous, small brushstrokes pick out each pebble's individual color and sheen, from soft lavender and blue-grey to speckled ochre, giving the beach an almost jewel-like density. Cool, even daylight keeps colors clear and shadows soft, and the tightly rendered detail draws the eye slowly across the surface. The overall feeling is calm and intricately observed.
