About this work

A small chapel with two slender cypress trees stands at the crest of a rolling Tuscan hill, reached by a pale winding path cutting through dark plowed fields. Rough, textured ridges of ochre and brown earth fall away on either side, while pale golden light breaks through a heavy, deep-blue sky behind the chapel.

Thick impasto applied with a palette knife builds the furrowed hillside into a tactile relief, while the sky is worked in broader strokes of indigo and violet. The glowing gap of cream and amber light anchors the composition, pulling the eye up the path. Deep blue against warm ochre creates a tense, brooding drama of a gathering storm.
