About this work
A tabletop arrangement of glass vessels — a labeled wine bottle, a tall clear demijohn, a smaller flask, and a green bottle wrapped in a wicker basket — is flanked by pomegranates, one split open, and an old kerosene lamp on the right. Behind the objects, a pale panoramic view of a riverside city with a golden dome stretches across the horizon.
Warm ochre, cream, and grey dominate the palette, with red pomegranate flesh and a green bottle providing the only saturated color accents. The still-life objects are rendered with fairly precise, tactile detail, while the distant cityscape dissolves into a soft, hazy wash, creating a quiet, contemplative mood of an evening indoors overlooking the river.
