About this work
A wide canal bordered by granite embankments and city buildings recedes toward a flat stone bridge, beyond which a green-domed cathedral with a bell tower rises above the rooftops. A few parked cars and small figures appear along the near embankment, under a sky filled with scattered clouds.
Painted in soft blues, warm ochres and creamy building facades, the pastel balances the cool rippled water with sun-lit stone and stucco. Loose, atmospheric strokes soften the distant architecture while keeping the foreground embankment crisp, giving the cityscape a calm, airy, open-sky feel.
