About this work
Slender bare trees rise through a curtain of falling snow in a city garden, their trunks dark against a pale, low wall that marks the far boundary. A wooden bench sits half-buried in snow at left, and a trampled path with footprints cuts across the foreground toward the right.
The palette is kept to soft greys, browns and warm off-whites, with the fading afternoon light picking out one patch of yellow behind the trees. Thick dabs of white paint scattered across the surface stand for the falling flakes, giving the brushwork a textured, almost frosted quality that conveys the hush and chill of a snowstorm settling over the park.
