Rainy

A wide band of dense, roiling gray-violet storm clouds fills most of the composition, pressing down over a narrow strip of still water and a low dark shoreline with a few silhouetted trees. A thin seam of pink-orange light glows along the horizon where the clouds break, reflecting faintly on the water's surface. Tall grasses and wildflowers rise across the foreground.

The sky is worked in thick, dragged strokes of gray, mauve, and cream, while the foreground grasses are built with short, loaded touches of ochre and green over a darker ground. The narrow strip of warm light against cool, heavy tones gives the scene a brooding, atmospheric hush before rain.
