About this work
A large pale-pink, kidney-shaped body occupies the middle ground, ringed by dark studded shapes resembling scales, small brown and black spheres, and a fan of dotted coral-like fronds at lower right. A tight spiral disc and cracked, cavernous textures fill the left side, suggesting a grotto crowded with soft-bodied forms.
Muted dusty pink, taupe, charcoal and rust dominate the palette, applied in flat, evenly lit patches covered edge to edge with tiny dots, scales and net-like hatching. The uniform micro-texture and absence of shadow give the scene a quiet, enclosed stillness, as if looking into a fossil bed or coral cave.
