About this work
A single hunched figure kneels at the center, both hands raised to cover the face while pale, tangled hair or a hood frames the head. The body is wrapped in rough, blocky drapery, knees drawn up, set against a tall pale vertical band that divides the dark ground behind it into geometric panels.
Thick, dripping layers of oil and acrylic in deep indigo and cobalt blue are built up over a near-black ground, pooling and cracking into a heavily encrusted surface. The cold, saturated blue against near-black shadow and the huddled, faceless posture create a heavy, dramatic mood of grief or supplication.
