About this work
Seen across the water from a height, dense autumn trees line the near bank, their reddish-brown and green foliage giving way to the long facade of Prague Castle and the soaring twin spires of St. Vitus Cathedral on the hill beyond. Smaller towers and red-tiled roofs cluster along the ridge, with a small boat visible near the shore.
Muted golds, greens and browns fill the foreground trees, cooling into pale grey-lavender for the distant castle and hazy sky. Soft, diffused light minimizes shadow, and the still water below repeats the skyline in broken, dabbed reflections, lending the whole view a hushed, serene calm.
