About this work
A young woman is seated three-quarter length, wearing a white short-sleeved blouse, her hands folded together and resting on her lap. She turns her head slightly to one side with a calm, unposed expression. Behind her the setting is only loosely indicated, with the wooden back of a chair or easel and a plain wall suggested by broad passages of paint.
