About this work

A tall, dented copper jug with a curved spout and handle stands at left, next to a shallow patterned bowl holding several ripe pomegranates and small mandarin oranges among green leaves. A single mandarin with an attached leaf lies apart at the lower left, on a plain wooden tabletop set against a mottled, warm cream wall.

The jug's tarnished surface is built from cool greys and warm ochre highlights, contrasting with the pomegranates' deep red-orange skins and the mandarins' bright orange. Brushwork is loose and textured in the background, more precise on the fruit and metal. Soft, even light creates gentle shadows, giving the grouping a warm, unpretentious stillness.
