About this work
Three nude women, each crowned with small flowers, stand in individual stone niches decorated with garlands and urns. The left figure drapes a chain of flowers along her raised arm; the center figure, beneath an ornate pink-and-gold canopy hung with fruit and blossoms, gathers white cloth at her waist on a pedestal; the right figure lets a drape slip from her body beside a jetting fountain, with gardens and trees behind.
Pale flesh tones and cool marble grays meet garden greens and touches of pink and gold in the swags and blossoms. Soft, even lighting and precise linear detail give the scene a poised, decorative finish, and the mirrored poses lend a calm sense of harmony.
