About this work
A dense cluster of stone and stucco houses with red-tiled roofs steps down a hillside, seen from a raised vantage point that also takes in distant blue mountains beneath a pale, cloud-streaked sky. In the foreground, lines of laundry hang between two closer buildings, and dark trees along a low wall mark the edge of the terrace from which the view is taken.
Ochre, rose and grey-green tones describe the tiled roofs and weathered walls, softened by hazy blues in the distant hills and a muted, overcast sky. Loose, textured brushwork keeps architectural detail summary rather than precise, producing a quiet, sun-faded impression of a hillside town.
