About this work

A worn path of pale stone and packed earth climbs through tall golden grass along the edge of a Crimean sea cliff. Weathered limestone blocks lie half-buried in the weeds at left, while jagged rock ledges drop to turquoise water where a single white sailboat drifts far offshore.

Warm ochre and rust tones in the sunlit grass play against the cool blue-green of the sea and pale sky, rendered with loose, textured strokes and visible impasto. Strong midday light flattens the horizon into a hazy line, giving the scene an open, sun-warmed calm.
