About this work
A nude woman lies stretched diagonally across the canvas, seen from behind and above, her head resting on a bright red cushion at one corner while her legs trail toward the opposite edge. The body turns so that back, hip and thigh form one long curve across the composition, set against a rumpled dark violet cloth beneath her.
The figure is painted in warm, saturated ochre and yellow with quick, visible strokes that simplify anatomy into broad planes rather than fine detail. The surrounding fabric is built from deep blues and violets in loose vertical strokes, throwing the golden body into sharp contrast. The economy of brushwork and bold colour give the study a quick, confident, intimate feel.
