About this work
Two academic studies share a single sheet: at left, a muscular male torso with one arm raised overhead and the anatomy of the shoulder, ribs, and abdominal muscles rendered in careful detail; at right, a human skeleton in a similar pose, showing the skull tilted back, ribcage, spine, and pelvis. Both are set against a plain, toned background with a small stamp mark near the bottom.
The drawing is worked in graphite and white chalk on warm tan paper, with dense cross-hatching building the shadowed muscle masses and bone forms while the paper's own tone stands in for mid-tones. Edges are precise and forms are modeled with strong, controlled value contrasts typical of academic anatomical drawing, producing a studious, clinical feel.
