About this work
A sunlit doorway opens onto a plain white paneled door set into a sloped attic wall, with a wooden stool holding stacked canvases and frames just inside the room. To the left, an easel's wooden back edges into view, and beyond the bright hallway a small black cat sits silhouetted on an outdoor ledge, seen through the open door.
The palette is almost monochrome, built from soft whites, pale greys, and warm ochre light spilling across the floor and walls. Smooth, carefully modeled brushwork and quiet, even light give the empty studio a hushed, contemplative stillness, more about the fall of morning light than any single object.
