About this work
The canvas is crowded with numerous pale, waxen human heads of varying ages and expressions, scattered irregularly across the surface, several trailing long drips or elongated forms as if melting. A few abstract shapes, including a coiled spring and a teardrop-like bulb, are interspersed among the faces, with no single figure given priority over the rest.
Skin tones in ivory, pink and ochre stand out sharply against the near-black maroon ground, itself covered in fine red cursive script. The heads are modeled with soft, waxy highlights and heavy shadow, giving them a sculptural, almost embalmed quality, while the dripping forms are painted in thin, translucent streaks that heighten the unsettling, dreamlike mood.
