About this work
A forest floor is thick with pale, cushiony lichen and moss, spreading around several cut stumps and fallen logs in the foreground. Slender young saplings and pine shoots rise between them, while thicker dark trunks frame the scene on either side. In the distance, a row of birch trunks catches a warm band of golden light against the shadowed woods behind.
Muted greens, greys, and ochres dominate the close view, built up with textured, dabbed strokes that suggest the springy surface of the lichen. The golden light on the background trunks is the single warm accent, set off against the cool, shadowed foreground. The handling is naturalistic and observational, giving this quiet corner of forest a still, hushed feel.
