About this work
An unmade bed fills the frame in near-monochrome grey and white, its sheets and blanket thrown into deep creased folds. Two pillows at the top show hollowed indentations where heads once rested, and a strip of tiled floor is visible between the two halves of rumpled bedding, as if two separate sleeping areas have just been vacated.
Painted almost entirely in tonal greys with only faint warm undertones, the work relies on careful modeling of light and shadow across the fabric's folds to build volume and weight. The brushwork is smooth and controlled, giving the cloth a sculptural, almost marble-like solidity. Stripped of color and figures, the image reads as a quiet, melancholic trace of a recently departed presence.
