About this work
Two seagulls wheel sharply across a rooftop of ridged metal panels and a long row of terracotta chimney pots, the whole scene tipped onto a steep diagonal as if viewed from directly above. Smaller gulls dot the pale sky in the distance, emphasizing the height and open air above the tiled roofline.
Cool greys, warm ochre and rust describe the roof planes in crisp, graphic outlines, while the birds are painted more loosely, wings caught mid-stroke in white and grey, giving the flattened architectural pattern a brisk, airborne energy.
