About this work
A nude man stands off-center, his torso turned toward the viewer while his head is bent down and turned away, obscured in shadow. His hands are clasped together at waist height, and one leg is set forward in a stance suggesting movement or hesitation, framed by dark diagonal beams and a taut dark cord crossing the lower right.
The figure is painted in chalky, thickly applied whites and pale ochres that stand out sharply against a near-black ground, while the window structure behind glows in acid yellow-green, its grid loosely brushed and dissolving into shadow.
