About this work
The image is a tight close-up of a spacesuit helmet, its curved visor filling most of the canvas. Inside the dark oval, a small planet Earth glows blue and white, reflected as if seen from deep space, while two gloved hands reach toward it from either side. Along the lower edge of the suit the Russian word 'ДОМ' (home) is stenciled in black.
The suit's fabric and metal fittings are painted with crisp, near-photographic precision, every seam and lamp catching a cool grey light. Against this hard-edged realism, the small reflected Earth glows softly, its blues the only warm note in the composition.
