About this work
Several sailing ships with bare masts and rigging are moored along a stone quay, their hulls painted dark blue, red and ochre. Behind them stretches a waterfront lined with tall pastel-colored buildings, while in the foreground a small white motorboat and a weathered rowboat float on the calm harbor water, their forms mirrored in soft reflections.
Loose, textured brushwork renders the rigging as a web of fine lines against a pale sky, while thicker strokes model the hulls and building facades. Muted warm tones on the architecture play against cool greens and blues in the water, giving the harbor a still, overcast tranquility.
