About this work
Jagged, tooth-like dark grey and brown peaks form a mountain range across the lower two-thirds of the canvas, their slopes covered in small patterned cells, dots and pods. At the center the ridge opens into a radiating, fan-like burst of golden strokes suggesting sunlight breaking through, while a pale, cracked-gold sky, textured with fine white lines, fills the top.
Warm gold, ochre and brown dominate, punctuated by the dark charcoal silhouettes of the peaks, all rendered in the dense stippled and hatched micro-texture used throughout. The glowing ground and radiating center give the scene a warm, luminous atmosphere, like sunrise breaking over a crystalline or coral mountain range.
