About this work
An overhead view shows a laden table draped in a richly patterned turquoise and red paisley textile. A tall silver teapot and a tilted brass jug anchor the center, surrounded by a cluster of green grapes, purple figs and plums, a pear, tangerines, a folding fan, a seashell, and scattered coins, with swaths of green and orange fabric framing the edges.
Pastel is built up in dense, saturated layers, running from jewel-toned greens and turquoises to warm oranges and purples, with metallic highlights picked out in white and ochre. The composition is packed edge to edge, its ornamental patterning and abundance of objects creating a rich, decorative, festive still life.
