About this work
The canal curves sharply between granite embankments lined with dense green trees, opening onto rows of pastel-colored apartment buildings under a red-roofed corner house. A low footbridge crosses in the middle distance, with a few tiny figures visible along the far bank. The water lies calm, mirroring the buildings and foliage above.
Cool greens and blue-grays dominate the shaded foreground, warming into ochre, pink, and rust tones on the sunlit facades across the water. Thick, dabbed brushstrokes build up the foliage and reflections, giving the surface a shimmering, textured quality. The still water and soft midday light lend the scene a tranquil calm.
