About this work

A small round table draped in a pink floral cloth holds a brass samovar, a blue glass tumbler and a plate of fruit, set at the edge of a garden. Beside it, tall spikes of pink, purple, cream and yellow lupines rise against a view opening onto a still lake, with a wooded hill reflected in the water on the far shore.

Loose, directional strokes of green and gold build the foliage and flower spikes, following the growth of the stems, while the samovar is rendered in warm ochre highlights against cooler garden tones. The water is kept smooth and pale, mirroring the hillside in muted greens. Sunlit color and an open composition give the scene a calm, tranquil mood.
