About this work
A two-story green timber country house with a white-columned veranda, ornamental gable and a small onion-domed tower rises behind dense trees. Beds of pink and red flowering shrubs line a sandy path in front, where a woman pauses beside a pram at the lower left, the whole scene bathed in daylight.
Painted with loose, confident strokes in greens, ochres and touches of pink, the canvas captures dappled sunlight across foliage and the textured tin roof. Brushwork is quick and sketch-like, closer to plein-air impression than tight detail, giving the whole a peaceful, sunlit, domestic feeling.
