About this work
A worn ceramic plate holds a generous arrangement of fruit: two pale yellow-green apples with attached leaves, a blushing peach, a dark plum, and clusters of both red and green grapes spilling over the rim. The plate rests on a dark tabletop, set against a loosely brushed, warm-toned wall in cream, ochre, and grey.
Light falls from the upper left, picking out the waxy sheen on the grapes and the soft bloom on the peach's skin, while deep shadows anchor the fruit against the plate. The brushwork is smooth and blended on the fruit forms but broad and textured in the background, giving the still life a warm, quietly traditional feel.
