Fountain

A pale stone fountain with two square tiers, each faced with a small dark red decorative panel, stands at the end of a grass path flanked by clipped, cone-shaped evergreen trees and low maroon plinths. Behind it, a dense screen of deciduous trees in full autumn color rises against a strip of pale sky and distant hills.

Cool grey-white stone contrasts with the saturated greens of the lawn and hedges and the hot golds, oranges and reds of the autumn foliage behind. Thick, textured brushwork picks out fallen leaves scattered across the grass, and the symmetrical avenue of dark cypress-like trees draws the eye toward the fountain, giving the park a quiet, ordered calm.
