About this work

A dense screen of trees and flowering shrubs in lilac, mauve, and dark green crowds the far bank of a calm river, their forms doubled in soft, broken reflections on the water's surface. A pale, near-white sky opens above, framing the mass of foliage that fills most of the canvas.

Paint is applied in thick, textured dabs and drags, with white and cream scumbled over darker greens and purples to suggest light filtering through leaves and glinting on water. The handling is loose and almost abstract, dissolving individual trees into a shimmering, atmospheric mass that reads as tranquil and softly luminous.
