About this work

A tall glass vase holds a dense bouquet of yellow roses and freesias mixed with deep blue-violet anemones, their green stems visible through the water. The vase stands on a wooden table beside a striped wicker fan, set against a loosely brushed gray-mauve wall.

Paint is applied in broad, confident strokes with visible impasto in the petals, the yellow blossoms built up with thick highlights against cooler violet shadows. The muted, tonal background contrasts with the vivid bouquet, creating a soft, airy studio atmosphere typical of a direct alla prima study.
