About this work
Two stylized women in flowing orange-red dresses are built from countless irregular tile shards, one raising a hand as if in dance, the other turned in profile beside her. Around them a pale, cracked field of cream, grey, and gold fragments suggests billowing fabric or drapery, framed by looping decorative line work.
Smalti, glass, ceramic, and porcelain pieces of varying size and sheen are pieced together in warm oranges and cool neutrals, their broken edges catching light differently across the surface. The faceted, cubist-leaning construction of the figures gives the piece a vibrant, ornamental rhythm typical of mosaic craftsmanship.
