About this work
A large snow-crusted boulder fills the foreground on the right, while thin bare and pine trees stand scattered across a white, snow-covered field beyond it. Low blue-grey hills close the distance under a heavy overcast sky.
Cool greys and blues dominate, warmed only by brown patches of exposed rock and earth beneath the snow. Thick, textured strokes build up the snow's crust, while softer, hazier brushwork recedes into the distant hills, giving the scene a still, cold hush.
