About this work
A nude woman clutches an apple and looks back over her shoulder while a nude man crouches beside her, one arm raised protectively, both moving out of a walled garden. Behind them a winged figure in white and red robes raises a glowing sword, and a striped serpent coils in dark foliage at left; fruit-laden trees and a paved path fill the background.
Strong directional light rakes across the two pale bodies from the upper right, set against deep shadowed greens and warm ochre trunks, while the angel glows in near-white light. Paint is applied smoothly on the figures with looser, textured strokes in the foliage, building a tense, theatrical charge typical of academic biblical narrative painting.
