About this work
Snow drifts steadily across a narrow brick courtyard at dusk, past snow-capped roofs, chimney pots and a small cupola visible in the distance. A tall building on the right holds a lit window and a wall-mounted lamp that throws a cone of light down a metal fire-escape ladder, while a low arched passage and wooden fence lead deeper into the yard below.
Muted olive, ochre and charcoal tones dominate the scene, warmed only by the amber glow of window and lamp against falling snowflakes rendered as soft flecks of white. The paint is applied smoothly with careful tonal gradation, building a quiet, hushed atmosphere of a solitary winter evening.
