About this work

A tall engraved copper ewer with a curved spout stands at center, flanked by a small glass of wine, a pale pear, a pomegranate cut open beside two whole ones, a green pear and a walnut. All rest on the folded corner of an ornate red, blue and cream floral carpet draped over a table edge.

Warm coppery metal and ripe fruit stand out against a deep, flat blue-green backdrop, while the carpet's dense repeating medallions and blossoms glow in crisp, saturated color against the more muted, softly modeled objects. Controlled directional light picks out reflections on the glass and metal, giving the still life a rich, quiet opulence.
