About this work
A steep, terraced slope fills the left and lower portion of the canvas, its surface built from horizontal bands of small brick-like shapes in ochre, olive, rust and dusty rose, separated by golden ridges flecked with turquoise. Above and to the right, a plain sage-green sky occupies most of the upper picture, with a single luminous white orb above the peak of the terraced form.
The terraced bands are painted with thick, textured impasto and metallic gold accents, giving the surface a mosaic-like quality, while the sky stays smooth and flat by contrast. The muted, earthy palette and stark geometric simplification lend the image a calm stillness, with the pale sky and glowing orb suggesting a quiet dusk or dawn.
